Cabanas is a charming picture-postcard fishing village, quiet yet not isolated, approximately 4km east of Tavira. It's perfect for people who wish to visit the 'real' Algarve but with the more desirable aspects of a holiday area, incorporating all the requirements of the modern holiday-maker whilst still retaining its old-world charm. It's certainly different from the large tourist resorts west of Faro! It has a wide choice of informal and inexpensive restaurants and cafés, a daily market selling local produce, many little shops in the narrow streets, and a small marina. It's a small and friendly village, still an active fishing community, with little more than a thousand permanent residents.

The massive peaceful Isla da Cabanas beach, with EC Blue Flag status, is probably the most unspoiled beach in the whole Algarve. With its miles of clean golden sands and the warmest sea in Portugal, it is never overcrowded even in high summer. The beach is reached by a 2 minute trip across the lagoon using a flotilla of small fishing boats that shuttle backwards and forwards between the village jetty and the beach (price €1.20 return, small kiddies go free). The beach has sun beds and parasols for hire, a couple of small cafés, WCs and showers.

There are lots of other beaches very nearby, both island and mainland, easily reached by bus, train or car, and all with EC Blue Flag status.

Tavira is easily reached by train (one stop), bus or car – or a brisk walk for the more energetic!

This modern spacious first floor apartment is in a quiet area and overlooks the small fishermen's houses of the village. It is only about 250 metres from the sea, which is much nearer than lots of other properties offered for rent in the Cabanas area.

There is a beautiful new swimming pool behind the apartment, approx size 12 metres x 4.5 metres, with shower and well-kept garden areas, seldom very busy even in summer.

The apartment has full air conditioning and is extremely well furnished and equipped. The west facing balcony has table and chairs and a retractable sun awning for the hotter days.

There is ample parking space in front of the building.

We can provide a baby's cot, with insect net covering the whole cot, for €3 per night.
